I did the unthinkable this morning. I set my alarm last night and went for a run this morning before Jack woke up. I only hit the snooze button three times, which equaled 27 minutes. I ran an "easy" four miles but they felt really hard! I didn't have any coffee before I ran, and I always have coffee before I run. I knew that if I sat down for a cup of joe before my run this morning I never would have gotten out the door.
It felt really good to have a run done before starting my day. I think I will try to do it again, but next time have the coffee pot ready the night before so in the morning all I have to do for a quick cup is push a button.

New Shoes!
These beauties came in the mail today:
Yup, Birkenstocks. I ordered them online from Rue La La, a great site with new sales on different brands every day. These were just $35- regular price $75. I bought an awesome pair last year- patent leather Ibiza style. Loved them to death.
Jack hit the jackpot today. He got to hang out with Grandpa Tom! He love love loves his GT.
Jack always has so much fun hanging with GT. And thanks to GT I went for a 6.6 mile run when I got home from work. It was a very hilly route but overall I had a good run.
I used LogYourRun again today, and my one complaint is that it takes about half a mile to sync up and work accurately. I ran with it for a while and the pace was all over the place (8:30 - 23:15) and I know I wasn't running that sporadically.
After J went to bed I put on Red Hot Chili Peppers and got my Ashtanga on. But by the time I got to the closing sequence I was exhausted and couldn't get up in headstand. There's always tomorrow.

to run or not to run
Yesterday I received a lovely email from a lovely lady, saying that I inspired her to go on her longest run in a while. She ran 4.5 miles with her husband. This made me so happy!
Flash forward to today, and before I even made it home from work I had come up with a list of reasons why I wasn't going to run tonight. Too cold, too tired, blah blah blah. I knew they were all just excuses and the only legitimate reason I had was that I hadn't seen Jack (or Adam) all day. Well, I got home and they weren't there. Adam had left his phone on the kitchen counter so I couldn't call him to see where they were. I had no excuses. Had a snack, changed and headed out. I ran five miles and felt pretty good. The new shoes were really bothering my left ankle but got better after the first mile.
I am so happy I chose to run. It's really hard sometimes to get out there, but I always feel so much better when I do. I hope I can send some more inspiring vibes to my wonderful running soul sister!
Lately pictures of food on blogs have been making me feel queasy, so I won't subject you to one. Adam made shepard's pie tonight with spinach, green beans and roasted tomatoes. Yum.
Guess what I did after Jack went to bed?!?
Yes, I practiced headstand! After several tries, I did get my legs all the way up for about 2.2 seconds.

Bad Girl
Listened to my legs and took a rest day today. I have two gift certificates from Christmas for massages and I think it's time to use them.
Lately I've been trying to be mindful about what I eat, and when. For example, there is no need to eat a box of Caramel Delites at 9 PM. I was a bad girl today. Went out to lunch and ate nachos and portabella burger and as I type am waiting for pizza to cook in the oven. Oops.

Headstand Update
I second Designer Athlete. I was completely disgusted by the wardrobe choices by a few individuals at yoga this morning. There was a girl in front of me wearing baggy shorts that were super short with no undergarments. I saw too much.
We went from Bakasana to headstand, but unlike Designer Athlete, I was unsuccessful. I felt like I was close, though.I'm going to practice this week and hopefully next week I can get up.
My longish run was changed to four miles because I ended up working today and it took much longer than expected. My legs were feeling tired so I was glad for the shorter distance. I am still happy with the new shoes, but they are still rubbing a little on my ankles. The last half mile of the run I had an unobstructed view of the sun setting on Lake Champlain and the Adirondacks. Beautiful!

Gug Gug Gug
Jack is really into Thomas the Train right now. It was on PBS this morning and when he heard the theme song he was pretty pumped.
First Run
First run in the new shoes went well. Five miles with J in the jogger. They felt good- really liked the snug heel fit but were a little high around the ankles. I really like the new lacing pattern. It enabled me to get a snug fit without sacrificing circulation in my feet.
I used LogYourRun again today. Overall, I'm happy with it, especially since I paid $1.99. The technology is there, but I don't think it's very user friendly. The website is awful to navigate. It's a bummer though, on our run today we had to cross the street four times- three of those times were at a stoplight and had to wait for the signal. The timer doesn't stop when I stop to wait to cross the street so the pace is off. Can any of you Garmin users tell me if you have the same problem?
Forgot to wear my heart rate monitor to yoga this morning. I knew I would forget. I am so bad at remembering every little thing. At least I remember the important stuff, like that I had a baby in the car when I went to Starbucks and didn't leave him chilling in the VW all by himself.
